Hi Newf
Friends,
Sitting
back and reflecting about our Regional Specialty, it comes
to mind the old adage “It
takes a village to raise a child”. I see where a comparison
can be made to the rearing and nurturing of a club. It takes
a WHOLE lot of people working together to build a strong club.
I witnessed this during the time spent preparing, organizing
and presenting this venue. I hope that everyone noticed the additional
hard work that went into providing a nice hospitality area, and
a GREAT Auction/brown bag area. It was great to see more participation
and effort into those areas. Without the countless hours of volunteerism
the goal of bringing this presentation to fruition would never
be met. Thanks to our Show Chair Joan Gunn, for putting together
such an event. My hat is off to the MANY people of OUR VILLAGE
who worked tirelessly, and my heartfelt thanks as well.
What
a line up of outstanding beautiful dogs. It was like EYE
CANDY to any dog lover. My personal thanks to all who entered,
attended,
and shared time at our event. I appreciate the dedication
and hard work that everyone embraces to prepare for these and
all
other working events. Congratulations to everyone, you are
ALL WINNERS on so many levels, and I truly hope everyone had
an enjoyable
time.
I
am in HIGH hopes that everyone has renewed their memberships
by now, if not please contact Mary Trauernicht.
We need to keep
our VILLAGE consistent as well as happily welcoming new
members.
I
want to mention one of our NCNC members who does a whole
lot behind the scenes and provides us all with THIS source
of information.
Angela Mertens has done, and continues to do a great
job with our newsletter. She has spruced it up with more photos,
and visuals
that make it not only interesting to read, but provide
some AHHH moments when looking at the pictures. This is a
large
job, and
we are fortunate to have Angela volunteer to do it for
us.
So my personal THANKS to Angela!
Looking
forward to the Spring of
the year our club has planned for some events that
will provide great fun, great camaraderie, for both human and
canines alike. On May 10th NEWFIEPALOOZA will once again
ROCK
and
KNOCK
your
socks off!! Each year when I think it can’t get much
better than this, Karen and Rhonda kick it up another notch.
This year
will be no exception. Details of this awesome event held
to benefit NCNC rescue are listed on the website. Please
take a look, and
see that this is DEFINITELY something you do not wish to
miss. Come join in on all the fun. I do not think there
is another
club that puts on a PARTY like this one to benefit needy
Newfoundlands. Please put it on your calendars.
Speaking
of calendars, check
out our NCNC website if you ever are in need of specific
information on events. There is a section that has
a month to month calendar
with meeting dates, and event dates listed. It changes
frequently with new information added as it comes
in. While we are on the
subject of WEBSITES, another NCNC member that needs
applause and thanks is our webmaster Karen Clancy. Karen is
lighting
quick with posting things for our website and keeping
us up to date.
We have a great website thanks to Karen and her technological
talents.
Hoping
that Spring will get here sooner than later! My BEST to all
of you and your FURKIDS.
Cissy

Hi Newfoundland
Friends,
I
am so painfully reminded about safety precautions concerning our
beloved dogs. While helping with
the search of the lost Newfoundland in the city of Chicago, so many
things come to mind about worrisome situations like this one. Things
that I am sure if I were placed in the same situation would have
brought out the endless questioning…. If I only had….
If I would have…. If I had a list made… If I had only
thought of that. And the list goes on and on. Hindsight is priceless,
but most of us
live in a daily life that does not present this, but surely enough
we need to be realistic accidents happen to everyone, no one is given
a by pass at all times. Just a reality check and suggestion, each
household should put together a list of contacts to be made in case
of emergency
of any type and keep it posted somewhere. I have one within my household,
one made for my vehicles, as well as one for my ring bag taken to
shows and events. It never hurts to be proactive instead of reactive.
With
all that freshly in my mind, I thought that everyone should feel
confident that this club is one with caring, thoughtful, and good
people within
it. Our members would HELP anyone faced with a situation of loosing
a pet whether it is passing to the bridge, actually being lost, a
pet with an illness or medical situation that requires surgery or
long
term therapeutic care, a pet with behavioral issues and I could continue
with countless scenarios. My point being, we have a GREAT network
of Newfoundland Friends willing to reach out and help. Sometimes
I wonder
if all owners would reach out as far and as much when it comes to
a human problem, that is a whole other story, but we certainly see
the
outpouring for our fur kids. That makes me proud, and elated to say
I am part of something like that. If you are new to this club and
sitting on the fringes wondering if or when you will step into the
circle of
members, please do. Please allow yourself to experience the confident
feeling that there will be support and an outreach of help if needed.
Not only should this support be during stressful times, but during
the daily process of what I term the THREE L’S… loving,
living, and learning with your Newfoundland. Everyday is an extension
of the Three L’s, and yes even the seasoned veterans learn some
new things too. I know that some will say that I am unrealistic about
this, and I probably will get a few BAH HUMBUG replies, along with
laughter but I refuse to look at only the negative. I will always have
high hopes, and visions that even with such a diverse group of people,
diverse philosophies, lifestyles, beliefs, likes, dislikes, we are
all still joined by one thing, our LOVE for our Newfoundland’s
and for believing “It’s All About the Dog”. Trying
to keep that in mind, I hope that this NEWF YEAR can see an increased
participation with mentoring, co-operative team work, heightening of
camaraderie and support. If we all set our sights on continuing to
do what’s in the best interest of our dogs, improving our breed,
and working hard together to get those lofty goals accomplished, what
a NEWF YEAR we have in store for us. It is my wish that we can come
together and achieve these things and I hope that you will include
at least one of these on your list of Newf Year Resolutions.
Speaking
of this NEWF YEAR, I would like to mention a few events and items
that are coming up during the time frame of this newsletter: w Membership
and Dues renewal. w General Membership meeting, followed by NCNC
Board
meeting Sunday January 27th at the Extension Building Lake County
Fairgrounds. Specific time and address will be posted on the website
as soon as
we get confirmation of ring time that day. w Regional Specialty:
There are still trophies to be sponsored, volunteers needed for hospitality
and auction areas, and donations for the auctions. Please check
the
specific information about these things within this newsletter.
Your
help, efforts, and support are next to none! As always I truly appreciate
the many things you, as members, do to make our club the great
one it is. Hopefully everyone had great holidays no matter what
way
you
celebrated, and that each and every one of you will have a peaceful
year filled with many positive things. I care about you all,
I care about your beloved Newfoundlands, and I wish you the Best
of
the New
Year.
Newfoundly,
Cissy

Low Fat Newf Cookies
Ingredients:
1-1/2 cups of hot water
1-1/2 tsp. beef or chicken bouillon powder
1/2 tsp. garlic powder (or 1 minced clove)
3 tablespoons olive oil (or vegetable oil)
3-1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup celery, finely chopped
1/2 cup shredded carrots
1/4 cup green pepper, finely chopped
Instructions: Preheat oven
to 350 degrees. Mix hot water, oil, bouillon powder and garlic powder.
Add flour, cornmeal and vegetables and mix well. Knead
the dough on a floured surface for a minute or two. Roll out to 1/4" thick.
Cut
into shapes. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 350 degree for 30 minutes.
Let cool - even though your Newf will probably be winding around your
feet from the time you take the cookies out of the oven. Makes about
3-4 dozen cookies, depending on the size you cut. Store in the fridge,
in an air tight container.
